FAQs - Frequently asked questions
Many options usually bring many questions. We've compiled the most frequently asked questions about the Domus7 student residence here.
Who can live in the :DOMUS7?
To what extent can and must I get involved in the dormitory?
We are a self-governed residence hall and expect a certain level of commitment from our residents. Therefore, active participation in the residence hall during the first two semesters is part of the agreement. This can include contributing to one of the numerous tutorials, as well as actively participating on your floor or in the administration. Further involvement is welcome; at the very least, active participation on your floor is expected. In extreme cases, we request that inactive residents meet with the administration, which, in serious cases, could result in termination of their tenancy.
I'm interested. Can I come for a viewing?
We don't hold open house days or interviews. If you'd like to see the house before moving in, please schedule an appointment with the management. You can reach them at verwaltung@domus7.org
How long are the contracts for a room?
When you move into the student residence, you will initially receive a contract for 2 years (4 semesters). This can be extended to a total of 5 years (10 semesters). It can be terminated by either party with 3 months' notice.
Am I allowed to move out during a semester?
Moving out is generally possible at the end of each month. However, this requires three months' notice so that we can find a new tenant.
Am I allowed to move in during the course of a semester?
If a room becomes available during the semester, it is possible to move in even during the semester. However, the best chances of finding a room in the house are for the summer semester on March 1st or April 1st, and for the winter semester on August 1st or September 1st. Only a few rooms become available during the course of the semester.
I would like to do an internship semester abroad or in another city. Am I allowed to move back in afterwards?
Yes, moving back into :DOMUS7 after an internship is possible. If enough rooms are available, we give priority to former residents. However, you should mention your intention to move back in after your semester abroad/internship when you submit your notice of termination. Please also contact the residence management regarding your return.
Am I allowed to sublet my room?
Subletting is not allowed. However, if you move out for a semester, you will get a room again afterwards.
Am I allowed to bring my own furniture?
The rooms are fully furnished, therefore only a limited amount of additional furniture can be brought in. The existing furniture, especially the bed, may not be removed from the room and replaced with your own.
I have a musical instrument; am I allowed to play music in the dorm?
We offer a music room for practicing and ask our residents to use it so as not to disturb their neighbors.
